Nurturing Your Pet

It's one thing to feed and bathe your pet like you should, but it's another thing to treat him or her like a family member. I have been a pet owner for a long time, and during that time, I have watched how friends and family members treat their animals. I have noticed several trends with people who really care about their animals, and I want to share them with you. After all, doesn't every pet deserve to be loved and cared for? Check out my blog for more information regarding pet ownership, so that you can make life special for your furry friend.

Going Out Of Town And Can't Take Your Dog? Put Them In A Pet Kennel

If you are going out of town and cannot take your dog with you, you can put them in a pet kennel while you are away. To make sure you and your dog are satisfied, below are three things to look for in a kennel.

Climate Controlled

You want to choose a pet kennel that has climate control. This is especially true if your dog lives in the house with you. You do not want to put your dog in a kennel that has no air conditioning during the summer months or no heat in the winter. Your dog would be very uncomfortable in a situation like this. It can also be dangerous if your dog overheats or gets too cold.

Ask the owner what temperatures they maintain in their kennel and how those temperatures are controlled. A unit that has an HVAC unit with a thermostat would be the best type as the temperature would be easy for the kennel owner to control.

Playtime

Dogs should not be kept in a crate all day long. Instead, they should have an area where they can play with other dogs inside the kennel. There should also be an outside area for the dogs to run and play. The kennel may have an indoor run for each separate dog.

Ask the owner if they have a set time that they take the dogs out for exercise as well as to potty.  Look at the play area to make sure it is clean and free from dangers. The fenced-in area should be secure and high enough so your dog cannot easily jump over it.

Other Services

There are some kennels that not only will take care of your dog but will also offer other services. This can benefit you even more as you could take care of other things for your dog while they are there.

Some kennels have groomers that will come into the kennel and bathe and groom the dogs. You could have your dog's nails cut also, as most groomers will do this. Some kennels have a veterinarian on staff or on call just in case your dog has an emergency. You may have to pay extra in order to have services like this. This will depend on the pet kennel you choose.

Talk with a few of the pet kennels in your area until you find one that you like.
